3 Steps to Getting More Done

Busy child care owners & directors sometimes feel like they are drowning in overwhelm. At times, it can seem like there is so much on your plate that you can’t possibly get it all done. But you HAVE to get it done, after all you have a huge responsibility to your staff, your families and the children.

As an owner or director, you have to make sure your enrollment is up, you are fully staffed, comply with licensing and agency regulations, you and your staff are up to date on training, families are happy, staff is happy, weekly invoices are paid, paperwork is done for various agencies, proper records are kept, building maintenance is handled, program quality is high, accreditation standards are upheld, and much, much more.

To top that off, you are supposed to take care of yourself, eat well balanced meals, get enough sleep, and not work too hard. It’s almost laughable, right?

So how can you get it all done?

The key is to get things off your plate by getting help. You can enlist others to help with some tasks by DELEGATING, and you can AUTOMATE some things, so you don’t ever have to think about doing them again. Start the process by PRIORITIZING all the things you are responsible for. Keep the most important things, and then make a plan to delegate or automate the rest.

Prioritize

Keep all the essentials that only you can do. Examples of things you should probably keep on your plate:

  • Creating a positive work culture
  • Staff Training & Onboarding
  • Program Quality
  • Licensing & Other Regulatory Agencies
  • Enrollment building
  • Marketing to families and staff

Delegate

Get things off your plate that don’t fall in your “Unique Brilliance,” things you don’t like doing, or things that someone else could do better. Examples of things you should probably delegate to someone else:

  • Building Maintenance
  • Filing & Record Keeping
  • Bookkeeping/Accounting
  • Prepping Enrollment Packets
  • Shopping for Food
  • Planning Menus
  • Ordering Craft Supplies

Automate

Anything you can set on auto-pilot. Examples of things you should probably automate:

  • Collecting Payments
  • Online Registration Forms or staff Applications
  • Online Calendars Allow Parents to Schedule Tours
  • Creating Systems (So everybody does the same task the same way, every time.)
  • Email Marketing (Set up automated drip campaigns.)
