3 Steps to Getting More Done

Busy child care owners & directors sometimes feel like they are drowning in overwhelm. At times, it can seem like there is so much on your plate that you can’t possibly get it all done. But you HAVE to get it done, after all you have a huge responsibility to your staff, your families and the children. As an owner or director, you have to make sure your enrollment is up, you are fully staffed, comply with licensing and agency regulations, you and your staff are up to date on training, families are happy, staff is happy, weekly invoices are paid, paperwork is done for various agencies, proper records are kept, building maintenance is handled, program quality is high, accreditation standards are upheld, and much, much more.

Embracing Feedback: 4 Tips for Improvement

In your journey of running a preschool, how many times have you asked someone for feedback? Was the experience a positive one? Most of the time when we ask someone for feedback on a project, a habit we tried to change or how our performance was, quite often the focus is on what we did wrong or how we need to improve. How do you feel when you give feedback? You may want to help a teacher who asked, but feel like you don’t want to hurt her feelings about where she went wrong. You might even find yourself thinking about how you would have done it better. All in all, the process of giving or receiving feedback is quite often negative and focuses on something that can’t be changed.

The 3 C’s of Leadership

Control – Does your team feel like they have control to make decisions? Do they have the tools they need, including the mindset to make decisions on their own? Give them the control to do so. As a director or owner step back from micro-managing. Let them stumble or even fail to give them a sense of control. Competence – Confidence and competence go hand in hand. These two qualities are necessary for control. Give your team the proper structure in which to feel competent & confident to do their work. Good training is the key. Clarity – “A confused mind never acts”. People need clarity on a project, and even the “why” of a project, to feel empowered and to take control. When people feel fully supported and understood by their leader, they are better equipped to do their part of a incredible team.

The “Vivid Vision” for your Child Care Business

Someone I spoke about at the Child Care Success Summit 2016 is one of of my favorite authors, Cameron Herold. He has written and co-authored some amazing books, one in particular called the ‘Miracle Morning for Entrepreneurs’. This book shows you how to have the best day, every day, especially for business owners. From this book Cameron speaks of the “vivid vision” which is what I want to share with you all today and how it can relate to your child care business!
