Creating Momentum for Child Care Business Growth

Momentum happens when an object in motion resists coming to a stop and is expressed in our high school science text books as “Velocity(Speed) x Mass.” Meaning, the greater the momentum, the harder it is to stop that object’s movement. Momentum, in simple terms, is a force unwilling to come to a halt.

Can you imagine what your child care business would be like if it were rolling with positive momentum on a fast track to success? When your business has momentum, everything is moving forward, things are getting done, exciting things are happening, employees are contributing and productive, customers love you and you get to see RESULTS in your bottom line and in your life.

Everybody knows someone that seems to have amazing luck and lots of positive forward movement. Everything they touch turns to gold. Nothing ever seems to go wrong for them. They are seemingly unstoppable. Don’t you sometimes wonder how you can get some of that for yourself and your child care business?

If you are ready to get more done, look better than you actually are, motivate everyone around you, and accomplish a ton, take notes and take action on the tips that follow:

Cultivate Your Mindset

This is probably the single most important thing you need to create and build momentum for your child care business. A positive mindset is something that needs to be nourished, protected and developed. You absolutely MUST have a winning mindset to keep riding the momentum train! Stay positive, believe in yourself and your team! If you are struggling with a pessimistic mindset, negative self-talk or a “Debbie Downer” type thought process, invest in some books, audios, or courses that will help you begin to change those patterns.

“Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, you’re right.” – Henry Ford. One of the greatest keys to getting what you want out of life and out of your child care business lies in your own belief that you can have it.

Live Your Mission

You have a vision for your child care business! Live it like it’s your sole mission in life. You need to be full of excitement for that vision. Be full of life and energy every time you are talking about your business and your vision. Other people will feel it, staff and clients alike. With the right staff and tons of amazing families in place at your child care center, you are in a prime position for growth.

Enhance Your Management Skills

It is important that you get the right team in place, to help you accomplish your vision. Look for staff that align with your goals and vision for your child care center. When you are working as a team, with like-minded people, your goals will be more easily accomplished. Think of a conductor of a great symphony. He leads the musicians, the musicians do the work of playing the instruments, and under his leadership, they end up with a beautiful song. Be that conductor. Work with your team to get more done by relinquishing the “reigns” and delegating projects to them. Help them develop their own professional leadership skills by giving them some freedom and responsibility to complete projects or head up committees.

Get Your Mechanics in Place

Plan & Prepare. Have your policies, procedures, and paperwork ready and in place. Be staffed up. Make sure you have a welcoming atmosphere for families when they tour. Planning is not going to directly build momentum, but it will make it easier for it to keep rolling once it starts. Imagine getting 10 calls for enrollment, but you don’t have a system in place for having your paperwork packets ready. That little speed-bump, of having to stop and locate or print the packets (when it’s not planned for), can really slow things down. Without proper planning, you can either completely fail, or take much longer than you’d like to achieve the success you desire.

Practice Positive Marketing

Show excitement about your child care business in your marketing. Look at every good thing that is going on in your child care center and promote it. Put it up on Facebook, include it in your email newsletter, point these things out on tours. Showing the community evidence of recent growth and of happy parents, children and staff is key in contributing to your child care business momentum.

Invest in Mentorship

Leaders are always learning. They know they don’t know it all, and they look to other leaders in their interest areas to glean all the information that they can. Getting coached or joining a mastermind group is essential in keeping your momentum going. Here at The Child Care Success Company , we have a couple of different groups for child care business owners and directors (like you) to help you succeed in your journey.

Check out the Child Care Success Academy to see if they would be a good fit to help you gain the momentum you need to achieve the business success you are looking for.

Start taking action on these things, you will definitely notice a difference and speed up your journey to success!
