In this Member Spotlight, we are excited to feature Academy Member Christine McNally, owner of Under the Magic Pine Tree Childcare Center in Auburn, CA! Christine was happy to share some details with us on how she has transformed her child care business and what her journey has been like with the Academy since joining. How did you hear about the Child Care Success Academy™?
What are the top issues you were struggling with before you joined the Child Care Success Academy™?
“Just knowing how to run a center. We had had an in home daycare for 16+ years and were moving to buying a center. Before joining I felt overwhelmed and not sure where to start. The center we were buying had been neglected for at least 10 years by an owner who had only collected profits and never stepped foot inside the building. I had followed Kris Murray on Facebook as an in home provider and used some of her marketing tips, so when the opportunity came to buy a center I knew, without hesitation, that joining the academy was a must.”
When & why did you decide to join the Academy?
“We joined the academy 30-40 days before escrow closed on our center and have been members since April 2019.”
Tell us about some of the results you’ve experienced since you’ve been a part of this group:
“Our hiring process has greatly improved. We still have a ways to go but we are getting better more qualified applicants. Our enrollment continues to grow even during the slow time of year and our culture is so family oriented now. I also have a handle on terms I was unfamiliar with before like FTE!”
How have these results impacted your life and your business?
“We have wanted to move out of state for the past three years but have not been able to see a way to do it. The Academy has given us the tools to run a successful business. We are looking at expanding next year and will be able to leave CA and move closer to our family and center.”
Have there been any eye opening experiences or A-ha moments you’d like to share?
“Our A-ha moment was at the Summit: “Hope is not a strategy.” We need a plan and implementation of that plan will help us succeed in our goal. People are the most important part of our business. Whether it’s employees who need to feel valued or the families we serve, it all comes back to the people.”
What’s your favorite thing about being a part of the Child Care Success Academy?
“All the support we receive and the ability to bounce ideas off of others with common goals.”
If you would like to give a shout out to any of our coaches or team members – who, what and why?
“Brian has been the most valuable person in this journey. He has held my hand from the beginning and encouraged, taught, and coached me the whole way. He takes time to go over things I struggle with or don’t understand and collaborate with me on strategies for improvement. We would not have been so successful in our short amount of time, in fact I don’t think we would have made it through escrow with out him! He truly makes me feel like he cares about us and our success.”
Why would you recommend the Academy to other child care business owners?
“I do ALL the time!!!”
